Glossary: Darwin

Charles Darwin was born on February 12th 1809. He was an English naturalist who showed that all species of life have evolved over the time from common ancestors through the process he called natural selection. The scienfic community accepted the fact that evolution occurs and so did the general public in his lifetime. Darwins discoveries fromed the basis of modern evolutionary theory. In a modified form it even remains the foundation of biology and provides a logical explanation for the diversity of life. His book 'The Voyage of the Beagle' summarized his findings during his expeditions whereas 'The Theory of Evolution' explains his theory of evolution based on his findings.Darwin died on April 19th in 1882 at the age of 73.
